Smart Self-Healing Conductive Material for Sensors & Soft Robotics
UC3M Knowledge Transfer Office at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid

About
Researchers at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid have developed a self-healing conductive material that restores its structure and electrical continuity autonomously after fracture. The material combines a soft elastomeric matrix with magnetic particles that realign and bond the broken surfaces without requiring external energy or stimuli. Once healed, it regains conductivity and withstands new mechanical loads, tolerating deformations above 20% while maintaining stability.
Its electrical resistance varies with applied strain, making it highly suitable for electromechanical sensors, soft robotic components, wearable devices, biomedical supports or smart textiles. Unlike conventional materials, it offers multiple repair cycles, prolonged service life and enhanced safety in applications where flexibility and continuous monitoring are required.
Collaboration sought:
Collaboration, investment or licensing agreements are sought with companies and research centres working in electromechanical sensors, soft robotics, rehabilitation technologies or smart materials.
