About me

Sophie Betka began her academic journey by earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the Catholic University of Lille, followed by a Master's degree in Neuropsychology and Clinical Neurosciences from Pierre-Mendès-France University in Grenoble. In 2018, she obtained a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Brighton and Sussex Medical School in the United Kingdom, after which she joined the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) as a postdoctoral researcher at Campus Biotech in Geneva.

During her years as a doctoral student and researcher, Sophie secured numerous prestigious national and European grants, including the Society for the Study of Addiction PhD Studentship, the Rotary Global Grant, the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship, as well as Ambizione funding from the SNSF and the ATIP-AVENIR program from INSERM/CNRS. In 2022, she participated in the Business Concept training program from Innosuisse, contributing to the creation of a biotechnology start-up.

Since August 2023, Sophie has been serving as a Scientific Officer at the Research and Grants Office (RGO) of the University of Geneva (UNIGE). She advises researchers on competitive collaborative funding, and her extensive academic experience of over eight years makes her a key resource in supporting postdoctoral researchers. Sophie also organizes thematic events tailored to the needs of early-career researchers within the RGO.

In parallel, she is a Company Advisor for Euresearch, where she advises start-ups and companies in the canton of Geneva on public funding, partner identification, and resource access. Sophie plays a crucial role in managing several European research programs, including Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, with a particular focus on innovation and industrial collaborations.
