Pirika is a Tokyo based environmental tech company founded in 2011 out of Kyoto University. Our mission is to overcome environmental problems through science and technology. We tackle litter from three angles, measuring it, mobilising people to pick it up, and collecting it with robots.
Takanome, AI litter survey for cities
Takanome detects and counts street litter with AI from images taken by vehicle cameras or on foot, and turns them into litter maps. Governments use it to decide where to clean, measure whether anti-litter policies work, and report outcomes with data. Takanome has 20+ paid deployments in Japan, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Shibuya, Yokohama and Kobe, and a paid contract in Lima, Peru. We have surveyed over 2M miles of roads across 7 countries, with test surveys in Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia and pilots under way in the US. Fleet and logistics partners already mount our cameras on their everyday vehicles, so cities get data without extra driving.
Pirika, the litter picking social network
Pirika is one of the world's largest social networks for litter picking. More than 2.5 million people in 130+ countries use it, and they have recorded over 400 million pieces of litter picked up. Companies and local governments use it to run and report community clean up programmes.
Litter collection robots
Through a publicly funded programme in Tokyo, we are developing robots that collect litter in outdoor environments such as beaches.

What we are looking for in Southeast Asia
1. Government agencies, town councils and property managers for paid pilots that compare one area before and after an intervention
2. Fleet, mobility and logistics companies to become data partners using cameras already on their vehicles
3. Brands and corporates seeking measurable environmental impact for CSR, community engagement or packaging responsibility
4. Robotics partners for outdoor field testing
