About
Data-driven insect farming through precision feeding
This project focuses on developing a data-driven approach to insect farming by applying precision feeding technologies. By integrating sensors, cameras, and real-time monitoring systems, we aim to accurately measure insect behavior, growth stages, temperature, and feed uptake. These data are used to continuously optimize feeding strategies, ensuring that insects receive exactly the nutrients they need at the right moment in their life cycle.
The system is designed to efficiently utilize organic by-products, starting with well-characterized streams such as bakery residues, and progressively expanding to more complex waste streams. By precisely controlling feed input, we prevent overfeeding and reduce the accumulation of organic material in the rearing environment. This minimizes microbial fermentation, thereby significantly lowering odor, ammonia emissions, and environmental impact.
Through this approach, insect production becomes more predictable, scalable, and economically viable, while contributing to a circular food system. The result is a sustainable method for converting low-value organic side streams into high-quality protein, reducing dependency on imported feed ingredients such as soy and supporting more resilient agricultural systems.
