Food MES: Manufacturing Execution System

WORQABLE bv is in the early stages of developing a Food MES (Manufacturing Execution System) specifically designed for agrifood SMEs — a gap in the market where existing MES solutions are either too complex, too expensive or built for large enterprises rather than small and mid-sized food producers.

The vision: a lightweight, open-source-based MES that integrates directly with ERPNext, giving food production companies real-time visibility and control over their manufacturing operations without the six-figure enterprise software price tag.

Planned core capabilities:

• Real-time production order tracking: what is being produced, on which line, by which team

• Batch and lot management: full ingredient-to-finished-product traceability for recalls and audits

• Quality control checkpoints: in-process checks, test results, hold/release workflows

• Waste and yield tracking: real-time visibility on production efficiency and material losses

• Equipment and downtime logging: basic OEE tracking for production lines

• Label and documentation generation: integration with Qrabl for automated batch label output

• Direct ERP integration: production orders, stock movements and costing automatically reflected in ERPNext

Why now: EU regulatory pressure around food traceability (Farm to Fork strategy and upcoming Digital Product Passport requirements) is creating urgent demand for affordable, accessible MES solutions among agrifood SMEs who currently rely on paper-based production records.
