Soil flux CO2 Measurements, possible adaptation for Soil CH4 flux

CTO at CEDARS Ltd.

About

Patented Soil Flux Chamber:

  • What it is: Small cylinder inserted a few cm into soil, with a sensor head on top that measures CO₂ released from soil.

  • Cost: up to 1500 eur per chamber (commercial)

  • Installation: Push collar into ground, attach sensor, connect to datalogger. (Can be) Done in 15 minutes!

Eddy Covariance Tower:

  • What it is: Tall mast (3-10m) with 3D sonic anemometer and gas analyzer measuring CO₂/water vapor fluxes every 10-20 times per second across the whole field.

  • Cost: Up to 250k eur depending on sensors and height.

  • Installation: Survey for ideal terrain, pour concrete foundation, erect tower, mount sensors, run power, calibrate. Takes 2-3 days with crew.
