BioNaturalSwiss (BNS) has developed a patented technology (IT Patent No. 102021000025622, PCT/IB2022/059641) that generates negative ions to modulate Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in plant cells. The system — covering process, product and machinery — acts as an abiotic stress inducer based on the hormesis principle, activating plants' natural defence and growth mechanisms without chemical inputs.
How it applies to the agrifood sector:
Our technology addresses three key agrifood challenges: pest and disease control (negative ions repel insects and strengthen natural plant defences), improved crop growth and quality (enhanced photosynthesis, nutrient absorption and organoleptic properties), and extended post-harvest shelf-life (reduced bacteria and mould growth on fresh produce).
Documented results include: +34% olive yield per plant, +59% total polyphenols in olive oil, -35% acidity, +20-25% productivity on cut flowers, and extended fruiting season on raspberries and tomatoes. Treatment protocols are defined for C3, C4 and CAM plant cycles.
The technology is currently undergoing scientific validation at the University of Bologna (Dept. of Agricultural and Food Sciences) across vertical farming, open-field tomato and microgreen trials.
