Bamboo2Industry: Development of new processes and products for sustainable bamboo applications
Research assistant / PhD student at University of Applied Sciences Aachen
Aachen, Germany
About
Thanks to its hollow shape and fibre‑matrix material structure bamboo is an excellent light weight engineering material. Combined with the high availability and carbon sequestration potential, it represents a sustainable alternative for non‑renewable resources like metals and plastics.
In the Research Team Bamboo at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, University of Applied Sciences Aachen, we investigate how full culm bamboo may be used in industrial applications. The goal of our research team is to make bamboo culms a viable production material for companies in many industries. Therefore we are developing a scalable production concept. The bamboo culms are beeing measured, processed and joined to various structures or products. Possible applications include bicycles, strollers, larger support structures such as exhibition stands and more.
We are looking for interested partners for a project cooperation. Do you already work with bamboo? Are you an expert in automation, measurement technology, material drying, material testing, surface treatment or surface coating? Are you a manufacturer and would like to use bamboo culms for your products? Do you have any other ideas, or are you interest in collaborating with us? We look forward to hearing from you.
