High-Performance Materials for Harsh and Hazardous Environments
About
Our expertise spans both chemical and biological synthesis methodologies, enabling the fabrication of nanostructured materials, thin-film coatings, composites, and functional protective textiles for use in critical and demanding environments.
Our research aligns with several key strategic domains:
• Resilient Infrastructure: High-strength, corrosion-resistant, and thermally stable materials are developed to improve the structural integrity and longevity of infrastructure systems operating under harsh environmental and operational conditions.
• Disaster-Resilient Society: Flame-retardant, weather-resistant, and mechanically enhanced materials are designed for use in emergency shelters, protective units, and personal gear. These are complemented by adaptive surfaces and sensor-integrated interfaces for real-time monitoring and early warning in disaster conditions.
• Fighting Crime and Terrorism: Functional materials and coatings with the ability to adsorb and neutralize chemical and biological warfare agents are a key area of focus, along with advanced protective textiles engineered for mechanical durability and multi-threat resistance.
Our contributions to project consortia mainly focus on the following areas of expertise:
• Development of multifunctional surfaces, coatings, and textiles for defense and protection,
• Smart nanocarrier systems for controlled release of active agents,
• Functional materials for chemical and biological threat mitigation,
• Responsive surface interfaces for sensing and hazard detection,
• Sustainable materials integration in industrial and protective applications.
