The European Maritime Space (EMS) workshop will examine the key challenges and opportunities for Short Sea Shipping (SSS) in the Atlantic Basin. The event will feature high-profile speakers including EU Maritime Space Coordinator Gesine Meissner and Minister of State at the Department of Transport Sean Canney.

Discussions will focus on the impact of maritime safety and environmental protection on maritime transport, with contributions from Christos Economou of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and Samy Djavidnia of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).

 The workshop will be divided into two thematic sessions. The first session will focus on the role of short sea shipping in the Atlantic Basin, with insights from various maritime industry professionals. The second session will include a roundtable discussion on the environmental and logistical benefits of SSS, covering topics such as the challenges of decarbonisation and the integration of SSS into the wider European transport network.
