About me

Mrs Charlina Vitcheva was appointed Director General of DG MARE, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in June 2020.

Prior to this, she became Deputy Director General of the Joint Research Center (JRC) in September 2016. She was acting DG for the JRC from the 1st November 2019 to the 30th April 2020.

Previously, Mrs Vitcheva have been Director of Smart & Sustainable Growth in Southern Europe at DG Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO), and also held a Director’s position on Inclusive Growth, Territorial and Urban Development and Northern Europe.

Before joining the European Commission, Charlina Vitcheva has been active in the Bulgarian public administration for 15 years, including at the Permanent Representation in Brussels, being actively involved in the negotiations of Bulgaria accession to the European Union, notably in charge of agricultural and fisheries dossiers and heading the negotiations, from 2000 to 2004, in the area of agriculture and rural development, food safety and fisheries.

Mme Charlina Vitcheva a été nommée directrice générale de la DG MARE, Affaires maritimes et pêche, en juin 2020.

Auparavant, elle est devenue directrice générale adjointe du Centre commun de recherche (CCR) en septembre 2016. Elle a assuré l'intérim de la DG du CCR du 1er novembre 2019 au 30 avril 2020.

Auparavant, Mme Vitcheva a été directrice de la croissance intelligente et durable en Europe du Sud à la DG Politique régionale et urbaine (DG REGIO), et a également occupé un poste de directrice de la croissance inclusive, du développement territorial et urbain et de l'Europe du Nord.

Avant de rejoindre la Commission européenne, Charlina Vitcheva a travaillé pendant 15 ans dans l'administration publique bulgare, notamment à la représentation permanente à Bruxelles, où elle a participé activement aux négociations d'adhésion de la Bulgarie à l'Union européenne, notamment en tant que responsable des dossiers de l'agriculture et de la pêche et en dirigeant les négociations, de 2000 à 2004, dans le domaine de l'agriculture et du développement rural, de la sécurité alimentaire et de la pêche.
