Ergon Research
About
Ergon Research is a spin-off of the University of Florence founded in 2008 and specialized in R&D and technology transfer in the fields of combustion, energy, fluid dynamics, turbomachinery and thermal management. We innovate products by exploiting CFD simulations, 1D tools and experimental tests. We have large experience of regional and European funded R&D programmes (www.ergonresearch.it/rd/).
We are looking for consortia that needs support for modelling thermofluiddynamics-related problems with CFD/FEM/MBSE tools, design/manufacturing of turn-key probes (temperature/emissions sensors), test articles (turbomachinery, combustors, thermal management heat sinks/exchangers), test rigs (also in high-pressure and high-temperature reactive conditions).
We have numerical experience in turbomachinery aerodynamics (compressors, turbines for steam, gas turbines, sCO2 cycles), turbopumps, secondary-air systems, stator-rotor cavities, combustor and turbine cooling, combustion, emission reduction, thermal calculations, fluid-structure interaction, thermal management (power electronics, electric motors, batteries), single-phase and multi-phase heat transfer, cryogenic chill-down, multi-phase flows, turbo-pumps, steady and transient thermo-structural calculations, reduce-order modelling for the creation of digital twins, failure of power electronics (arc blast fault), fluid dynamics in indoor environments and many others... Concerning the experimental capabilities, we use partner labs to perform tests of heat transfer, aerodynamics, rotating machinery, combustion from ambient conditions to engine-relevant conditions (up to 60 kg/s air at 30 bar) using natural gas, hydrogen, ammonia. Among the measurement techniques used, it's worth citing PIV, HWA, IR, TLC, PSP, TSP...
