Developing Low-Cost N2O Sensors for Smallholder Rice Farmers

**Project Overview:
**We are initiating an early-stage research project aimed at developing affordable, real-time monitoring solutions for sustainable agriculture. Our conceptual framework focuses on using Nitrous Oxide ($N_2O$) emissions as a high-fidelity indicator of nitrogen levels in rice cultivation to prevent over-fertilization and nutrient runoff.

**The Hypothesis:
**Rice paddies are significant sources of N2O—a greenhouse gas 300 times more potent than CO2. We believe that by detecting these emissions early through low-cost hardware, we can provide actionable data for fertilizer optimization. Our primary goal is frugal innovation: creating a tool specifically designed for the economic realities of smallholder farmers.

Collaboration Objectives:

As we are currently in the ideation and prototyping phase, we are looking for strategic R&D and technical partners to help us move from concept to a functional field-testable model. We are specifically looking to connect with:

• Sensor & Hardware Engineers: For the initial co-development of high-sensitivity, low-cost gas detection modules.

• Agricultural Research Institutes: For academic collaboration, feasibility studies, and future field trials.

• IoT & Data Scientists: To help design robust data transmission and analytics for challenging, high-humidity environments.
