Financing European Competitiveness

As the global economy evolves, enhancing Europe’s competitiveness is more important than ever. The European Commission is advancing a comprehensive agenda to improve access to finance, foster innovation, and support sustainable industrial growth across the Single Market. Building on initiatives such as the Competitiveness Compass and the Savings and Investments Union, the Commission is working to mobilise investment, simplify regulatory frameworks, and accelerate the twin green and digital transitions that underpin Europe’s long-term prosperity.

In this context, the EU is taking measures to strengthen European capital markets and reinforce its financial ecosystem through targeted instruments and partnerships, all designed to unlock capital for businesses, particularly innovative start-ups and scale-ups. At EU level a number of initiatives have emerged, including the Savings and Investment Union strategy, the Start-up and Scale-up strategy, as well as the forthcoming European Competitiveness Fund, which aim to strengthen Europe’s technological leadership, enhance productivity, support the development of sustainable and advanced industries and enhance the financial system’s capability to connect savings with productive investments.

Against this backdrop, the EU Finance Days 2026: Financing Competitiveness series highlights how European and national initiatives can work together to expand financing opportunities and drive economic growth. The Swedish event is organised jointly with the Confederation of Swedish Enterprises and will take place on Tuesday 20 October 2026 in Stockholm, Sweden, bringing together policymakers, financial institutions, industry representatives, and entrepreneurs to explore concrete solutions for improving access to finance and boosting competitiveness in Sweden and across Europe.
