de.NBI Cloud - Domain Specific VREs with SimpleVM
PI Datascience and Bioinformatics for Mass Spectrometry at Forschungszentrum Juelich GmbH

About
The de.NBI Cloud delivers Virtual Research Environments (VREs) that allow researchers, trainers, and research infrastructures to work productively in the cloud without dealing with underlying complexity. These VREs provide immediate access to computational resources, interactive analysis tools, and ready-to-use scalable compute environments.
With SimpleVM, the de.NBI Cloud enables browser-based research environments such as RStudio®, Jupyter Notebook®, IDEs, custom VREs, and similar interactive tools to be launched within seconds. Researchers can access these environments directly in the browser, while required software stacks and packages, including those distributed via conda, are made available without manual setup.
VREs on the de.NBI Cloud scales seamlessly from individual virtual machines to full SLURM-based compute clusters using SimpleVM’s features. This allows users to combine interactive analysis with high-performance batch processing in a single, coherent environment. Autoscaling ensures that resources dynamically adapt to workload demands, optimizing both performance and cost efficiency.
For training and community-driven activities, de.NBI Cloud VREs provide a consistent and reproducible setup for workshops and courses. Entire groups of participants can be equipped with identical, pre-configured environments, enabling tutors to focus on teaching rather than technical preparation.
We are actively looking for collaboration partners to develop and field new, scientific use-case driven VREs based on our SimpleVM platform.
