Women Network for Energy and Environment (WoNEE)
About
The Women’s Network for Energy and Environment (WoNEE) is a national platform of grassroots women dedicated to advancing gender equality in Nepal’s energy and environment sectors. Guided by its motto of enhancing women’s economic status through skill and knowledge transformation, WoNEE focuses on capacity building, enterprise promotion, and technical skill enhancement for women’s economic empowerment. It also advocates for gender-responsive policies, programs, and budgets from local to national levels while raising awareness at the community level.
Established as a loose network in 2015 and officially registered as a non-profit organization in July 2018, WoNEE now has over 100 local networks across the country. These municipal-level groups strengthen women’s leadership, promote equal participation in decision-making, and advocate for gender-responsive initiatives that support vulnerable women.
WoNEE operates through three main bodies: the General Assembly, the National Executive Committee, and the Secretariat. The General Assembly, its highest authority, includes representatives from all provinces, ensuring diverse and inclusive participation.
WoNEE envisions becoming Nepal’s leading women’s network, promoting professional growth in the energy and environment sectors. Its mission focuses on empowering women through training, mentorship, advocacy for gender-friendly energy systems, and strengthening their technical and managerial capacities. Key objectives include promoting gender-responsive energy policies and budgets, fostering investment and benefit-sharing opportunities for women, raising awareness on energy safety and efficiency, and encouraging women’s employment in energy-related fields.
