Active acoustic metasurfaces for dynamic noise control.

PhD, Department of Acoustics at Wrocław University of Science and Technology

WROCŁAW, Poland

About

The project focuses on dynamic noise management in large spaces using acoustic metasurfaces. Unlike traditional active noise control systems, which rely on generating a secondary acoustic field, the proposed solution utilizes active metasurfaces with dynamically shaped absorption properties. This reduces acoustic energy by adaptively increasing the surface's absorption capacity rather than generating compensating waves. This approach allows for effective impact on a larger acoustic environment while mitigating the challenges typical of traditional ANC systems, such as the local nature of noise reduction zones or the need for continuous emission of noise reduction signals. A key aspect of the project is the use of acoustic metasurfaces based on reversible electroacoustic transducers, whose sound absorption properties can be rapidly changed over time and which can also be used as acoustic sensors.
