Production of antioxidant polyphenolic extracts with potential health beneficial effects from cereal husks.
About
In this this project, CNTA aims to extract high-value ingredients for the food and nutraceutical sectors from agricultural by-products, specifically focusing on cereal hulls. By repurposing materials that are typically underutilized, our project promotes a circular and sustainable approach to food and ingredient production. Navarrese company Harivenasa has already been contacted to follow-up on the previous project.
Building on promising bioactivity results from previous research, the project explores innovative applications in both human and animal nutrition, while also addressing key technical and regulatory challenges to enable market entry. With a strong focus on scalability, environmental impact reduction, and cross-sector collaboration, the project offers a forward-thinking model for sustainable innovation in the agri-food industry.
In this project, we have 3 main goals: to optimise the extraction protocol, to scale up its production and to have it validated in final products, while clearing regulatory barriers that might arise. Partners who can support industrialisation of the process as well as end-users for the ingredients are most welcome. Partners who can validate our health beneficial effects in murine models are also encouraged to get in touch.
