Energy Community for PEDs: nexus of community engagement & upscaling

BEES coop is looking to join or co-develop a European project focused on Positive Energy Districts and the transformation of local energy systems.

Our particular interest is in exploring how energy communities can become an operational building block of Positive Energy Districts, combining:

• Local renewable energy production
• Energy sharing between local actors
• Energy flexibility and demand-side participation
• Citizen ownership and participation
• Cooperative governance
• Local economic value creation
• Inclusive and affordable energy systems
• Digital and integrated energy solutions

We are particularly interested in moving beyond purely technical approaches and testing models in real urban contexts.

BEES coop can contribute as a community-based organisation and real-world implementation partner, bringing experience in cooperative models, citizen engagement and project development.

We are open to joining an existing consortium as well as co-developing a new proposal with research organisations, municipalities, energy companies, technology providers and other community-based organisations.

Our ideal project would have a strong implementation and replication dimension, with the ambition to demonstrate how community energy can contribute to resilient, inclusive and climate-neutral urban neighbourhoods.

Brussels could provide a valuable European urban context for testing and demonstrating such an approach.
