We're a positive impact organisation working with cities, citizens, companies and the bicycle sector to encourage and facilitate cycling by reducing bike theft.
At a.bike, we are dedicated to combating bike theft with innovative and also established solutions. We believe that every cyclist deserves peace of mind, which is why we empower bike owners to protect their valuable possessions effectively. To do so, we work also with cities and the cycling sector. We argue strongly that bike theft prevention is essential bike infrastructure, not an afterthought.
Torsten Peters founded www.a.bike in May 2025 to address what researchers increasingly recognize as a "neglected barrier to sustainable urban mobility": the 3-5 million bicycle thefts occurring annually across Europe—roughly one every ten seconds. After nearly three decades working in European policy on economic, digital, and competition issues, he now applies this expertise to a problem undermining billions in cycling infrastructure investment. His Brussels-based perspective—shaped by two stolen bikes, two attempted thefts, and seeing vandalized locks almost weekly—drives his mission to provide accessible prevention strategies and services that protect cycling uptake and modal shift goals.
