About me

Cihan is an Assist. Prof. in Ankara, recently worked as a post-doctoral researcher in KU Leuven. He currently works under UPPER – Unleashing the Potential of Public Transport in Europe – Horizon Europe project with a special emphasis on the Serious Games publication as a co-creation practice from UPPER, project manager of the partner in Türkiye for the 15 Minutes City ERA-NET proposal for Driving Urban Transition (DUT) Call, modal share calculation and user satisfaction assessment methods, and transition pathways of UPPER cities’ measures related to the Theory of Change. He is also working on research articles about cycling policy assessment in the city of Leuven and innovative co-creation methods. Cihan’s expertise also involves working as a teaching assistant at the Middle East Technical University, City and Regional Planning Department (2011-2022), and as a consultant/sectoral expert in the projects about Green City Action Plan, Cycling Masterplan, accessibility of public transport, institutional mapping (Google Mymaps), and accessibility barriers mapping (Arc-GIS Online). He also has academic research experiences on urban design, urban mobility policy discussions, bike-sharing system planning and management, and legal-spatial-societal-administrative accessibility barriers of Persons with Reduced Mobility, and co-defining the barriers during his Master’s and PhD.

He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in City and Regional Planning with the "First Ranking Student Awards in 2011, a Minor Degree at Middle East Technical University in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration/Administration Studies Program, Master’s Degree at Middle East Technical University in Urban Policy Planning and Local Governments Interdisciplinary Program on sustainable mobility, bike-sharing systems, cycling planning, and bike-sharing systems, and Ph.D. Degree from Middle East Technical University City and Regional Planning Department on accessibility and accessible urban environment for Persons with Reduced Mobility with my Ph.D.
He has also worked in the Accessibility of Passenger Transport Services EU project as a non-key expert, the Barrier-free Accessibility Analysis University Technopark Project as co-founder and consultant, Enhancement of Institutional and Administrative Capacity of Directorate of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Research Centre EU Project as a non-key expert, Ankara Cycle Way Masterplan Project as a non-key expert, and Ankara &İstanbul Green City Action Plan project as a non-key expert.
