Multimodality from the Pedestrian Perspective

Veerle De Meyer

project coordinator at city of Mechelen

Mechelen, Belgium

About

Framed within Topic 1: Multimodal urban mobility systems – from a user experience perspective, this concept aims to enhance livability and urban quality by placing walking at the heart of sustainable city development. In Mechelen, Belgium, we are developing a forward-looking pedestrian policy framework that integrates spatial planning, mobility, public health, and social inclusion. By positioning walkability as a cornerstone of multimodal accessibility, the project promotes people-centered design, healthier lifestyles, and climate-resilient cities.

We are exploring opportunities to connect with existing consortia preparing proposals under the DUT 2025 call, where the City of Mechelen and its policy ambitions on pedestrian mobility could bring added value. At the same time, we are open to collaborating with new partners interested in joining or hosting a consortium to further develop and scale this concept. If your consortium shares our vision of people-centered, walkable cities, we would be glad to explore potential synergies.
