Reshaping urban street life
Professor of Applied Sciences Smart & Sustainable Mobility at Research Group Building Future Cities
Utrecht, Netherlands
About
HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht is seeking partners for an innovative research project focusing on the transformation of urban spaces. The core question is: How can existing city streets be redesigned to prioritize pedestrians, cyclists, public transport and shared mobility, while reducing dependence on privately owned cars? Specifically, the project will explore how on-street parking can be repurposed to improve mobility for everyone and enhance the quality of life on urban streets.
The research will investigate how physical interventions and immersive AR/VR technologies can engage citizens, businesses and other stakeholders in co-design processes, building support for car-free streets and sustainable transport solutions such as cycling. Furthermore, the project addresses how to overcome resistance to reducing car use and parking, and to stimulate cycling. It also considers how to build the necessary capacity among all stakeholders to ensure successful and inclusive implementation.
