Brussels as city partners for pilot case ?

Blaise Godefroid

Head of sub-division Mobility - Brussels at Bruxelles Environnnement

About

We have reviewed the DUT’s call 15mC topic 2: Reimagining parking – transforming urban parking policies and we think this would be a great opportunity for us to implement innovative solutions. We would be interested in integrating an existing consortium as city partners for pilot case.

We believe that Brussels is an excellent candidate for the following (non-exhaustive) reasons:

  • Parking spaces :

    • The ambitious CoBrACE legislation on parking, which significantly limits the number of parking spaces dedicated to workers in their office buildings.

    • We are currently undertaking a major reform of the minimum parking requirements in housing projects with a new methodology. Our aims are: 1) to find a balance between reducing car dependency and avoiding on-street parking transfer, and 2) to improve parking monitoring to facilitate the shift from on-street to off-street parking.

    • These limitations on parking spaces present an opportunity to explore how existing infrastructure can be repurposed to support alternative uses—whether related to mobility or not. To facilitate this transition, we have a facilitator whose goal is to support businesses to convert or share excess parking spaces in their office buildings.

  • Parking conditions :

    • We are currently reviewing our decrees on parking conditions, bicycle parking conditions, and charging point conditions. Each of which presents an opportunity to introduce conditions that encourage sustainable mobility, such as car sharing and urban logistics initiatives.

    • In order to materialize that, we coordinate two Green Deals that bring together public and private stakeholders around logistics and car-sharing issues. This is a great opportunity to promote sustainable transport options. Additionally, we are participating in the EU project Steer-NWE about inclusive e-carsharing solutions.
