Duckietown Testbed Exploitation and Development Utilisation

Michael Georgiades

Assistant Professor at Neapolis University Pafos

About

At Neapolis University Pafos, our Duckietown infrastructure supports AI-driven experimentation in autonomous micro-mobility, intelligent traffic coordination, and last-mile logistics, enabling practical validation of scenarios aligned with all three Driving Urban Transitions pathways.

  • For the 15-Minute City pathway, we explore proximity-based routing, multimodal transport, and dynamic traffic light control to improve access and livability.

  • For Positive Energy Districts, we simulate energy-aware navigation, vehicle-to-grid coordination, and infrastructure-vehicle interactions to optimize local energy flows.

  • Under the Circular Urban Economies pathway, we prototype urban logistics and closed-loop delivery models, focusing on resource-efficient, scalable transport in future circular cities.
Together, these efforts position Duckietown as a low-cost, high-fidelity testbed for climate-resilient, intelligent urban futures.
