Aileen Hommel

Research Associate at Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB)

About

We are looking for partners—such as hospitals, digital health companies, academic institutions, and innovation clusters—to collaborate on EU-funded projects supporting the person-oriented digital transformation of healthcare systems.

Our focus lies on people-centered digital innovation, with special attention to interoperabilitycross-sectoral, person-oriented collaboration (primary care, hospital, rehabilitation, pharmacy), tailoring digital transformation to the needs of patients and health care professionals – ensuring  acceptance of digital tools on both sides.

Our cooperation interests include:

  • Exchange on strategies for implementing and validating digital tools tailored to patients and health care providers

  • Comparative research across European healthcare systems

  • Exchange on patient needs and the acceptance of digital transformation by both patients and practitioners

  • Development of care models that improve continuity of care and communication across sectors

  • Collaboration with health care institutions and digital solution providers

We are particularly interested in mutual learning and structured exchange on what works in everyday digital transformation and how these can initiate change to person-centered care and health care settings.

Our team brings expertise and practical experience in:

  • Research methodology for understanding healthcare and society with a particular focus on power relations and health care delivery

  • Medical Anthropology, Social Epidemiology, and Ethnographic Research Methods

  • Analyzing how health technologies shape and change (patient) experiences

  • Digital transformation of health care systems and society

  • Research methodologies to analyse gender and diversity in its complexities

  • Developing approaches to integrate different data formats and designing mixed-method study designs for health services research

  • Extensive experience in multi-site, interdisciplinary research projects, funded by national and international institutions (e.g. BMBF, BMG, NCI)

We are ready to contribute this experience to EU projects focused on:

  • Identifying practical and systemic enablers and barriers to digital transformation

  • Co-developing integrated, cross-sector models for person-centered digital care

  • Evaluating real-world impact and usability of digital health innovations

  • Supporting implementation approaches that integrate participation, address structural inequalities, and tailored to local healthcare contexts
