Acquired Brain Injury Ireland helps people rebuild their lives after brain injury.

My organisation

Acquired Brain Injury Ireland (ABI Ireland) is a registered charity and the leading national provider of community-based neuro-rehabilitation services for people living with an acquired brain injury and their families. Every year in Ireland an estimated 19,000 people acquire a brain injury, resulting in life-altering, dramatic change. That’s 52 people every day. These injuries happen suddenly and are often traumatic, caused by road traffic collisions, stroke, assaults, concussion and viral infections, among causes. A brain injury can affect a person’s ability to manage their own life. Early access to community rehabilitation services is vital to ensure brain injury survivors can start to rebuild their functional, behavioural or cognitive skills at home after they leave hospital. At any given time, ABI Ireland works with approximately 1,300 survivors. The organisation delivers a range of expert clinical services and supports specific to the needs of each person, with individual rehabilitation plans that assist them in reaching their goals. ABI Ireland also provides information, education and practical help to those living with an acquired brain injury, as well as there carers and health professionals. Our digital Assistive Technology programme harnesses the power of technology, supported by our clinical and neuro rehabilitation teams, to enable people to live more independently.
