CRS4

The Centro di Ricerca, Sviluppo e Studi Superiori in Sardegna - CRS4 Srl Uninominale (http://www.crs4.it) is a multi-disciplinary research organization founded by the Sardinia Autonomous Region in 1990. CRS4 is a wholly owned subsidiary of the public body Sardegna Ricerche (http://www.sardegnaricerche.it). CRS4 has a current staff of about 140 people (December 2021) among researchers, technologists and other professionals focused on 5 main strategic areas: Biosciences, Computational Infrastructures and Smart Projects; Digital Technologies for Aerospace; HPC for Energy and Environment; ICT-Information Society; and Visual and Data Intensive Computing. Since 2003, the center is located in the Technology Park of Sardinia, Pula (Italy). CRS4 is equipped with high-end technological platforms: one of the major Italian HPCN centers (47 Tflops of computing power and 5 Pbytes of storage capacity) directly linked to one the largest massive DNA Sequencing platform in Italy and a state-of-the-art Visual Computing Lab. In the last 15 years CRS4 has collaborated to more than 30 European R&D projects, of which 16 in the 7th Framework Programme and 14 in Horizon2020, mainly on the themes of ENVIRONMENT, SECURITY, PEOPLE, SMART CITIES, INFRASTRUCTURE, HEALTH and ENERGY, and to more than 80 projects funded by national/regional research programs as well as to several research contracts with the private sector (Oil&Gas and IT Industry). CRS4 attracts an average income of 3.5 M€ per year from National and European competitive R&D calls. For the last 10 years, the publication record of CRS4 includes more than 390 scientific publications in international journals, more than 430 publications in conferences proceedings and 38 books and book chapters.
