The South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) is a Finnish institute of higher education. Xamk is the fifth largest university of applied sciences in Finland and the largest in RDI activity volume. International collaboration is an important part of Xamk's profile. Xamk is part of the European University INGENIUM, a campus consisting of ten European higher education institutions. Xamk’s research, development and innovation (RDI) activities are divided into four focus areas: 1) Digital Economy 2) Sustainable Wellbeing 3) Forest, Environment and Materials 4) Circular Economy, Energy and Logistics. There are over 250 ongoing RDI projects each year, through which a range of current and future activities, pilots and services are developed, supported by research and future needs. In Digital Economy focus area, there are ~60 development projects running yearly in the fields of digital information management and preservation, AI, game technologies, cybersecurity, digital business development and creative digital industries. In Mikkeli campus, the development work is organised as a RDI unit, research center Digitalia. It is a network organisation formed by Xamk, University of Helsinki, and the National Library of Finland. Digitalia develops the use, storage, archiving and security of information, in close collaboration with archives, libraries, museums, businesses, public sector organisations and associations both nationally and internationally. Digitalia engages in active collaboration between students, university RDI projects, memory institutions and companies. Xamk and Digitalia also coordinate the European Cluster Memory Campus on information management and contribute via the pan-European DLM Forum network to the European eArchiving initiative.
