Video Games as a Tool for Heritage Communication: The Case of Casa de las Posadas
Architect at Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Cuenca
Cuenca, Ecuador
About
This project proposes the implementation of a practical case of use of Serious Games for heritage dissemination in Cuenca: a prototype that integrates interactive digital technologies—specifically video game design—as a tool for resilience and heritage preservation. Applied to Casa de las Posadas, an iconic colonial building in Cuenca, Ecuador, the project explores the site from multiple perspectives, including a rigorous digital historical reconstruction that enables an educational and immersive experience. In this context, elements of gamification theory have been incorporated, such as reward systems using keys, objects, and clues to unlock new areas; decision-making that influences the narrative’s progression; and environmental storytelling, which fosters emotional immersion and strengthens the player's connection to heritage.
