About
The proposal aims to update and relaunch INFOMARE, a digital information system developed by PROAMBIENTE and CNR to provide real-time and forecasted meteo-marine data for the Emilia-Romagna coastline. Originally created as an innovative tool to support sustainable coastal tourism, INFOMARE offers beachgoers, tourism operators, and local authorities easy access to weather, sea conditions, and environmental indicators through a mobile app and web portal. After several years of use, the system now requires technological renewal and the addition of new features, such as satellite-based observations of algal blooms and user-generated environmental reports (e.g., sightings of dolphins or sea turtles). By integrating updated datasets, improving usability, and strengthening links with public agencies and the tourism sector, INFOMARE can become a modern platform that enhances safety, supports informed decision-making, raises environmental awareness, and contributes to resilient coastal management. Its evolution would also reinforce regional governance by enabling data sharing among institutions and offering a replicable digital model for coastal areas across Italy and Europe.
