About
ELPEN Pharmaceutical is a Greek pharmaceutical company founded in 1965, with integrated capabilities across R&D, GMP manufacturing, clinical development and commercialisation. Operating under EU GMP, GDP and ISO 9001 standards, ELPEN develops and manufactures originator, value-added and generic medicines, with particular strength in respiratory and cardiometabolic disease.
ELPEN's manufacturing spans oral solids (tablets, capsules), injectables and lyophilised products, and a distinctive inhalation platform covering dry-powder inhalers (Elpenhaler), pMDIs and nasal products, alongside R&D facilities and an emerging high-potent compound capability. This makes ELPEN a strong industrial partner for the GMP development, formulation and supply of investigational medicinal products (IMP) in clinical-trial consortia, backed by established regulatory affairs, CMC and pharmacovigilance functions.
Through the affiliated Athens LifeTech Park (ALTP), the group offers integrated preclinical and early-clinical services under one quality system: in vitro pharmacology and DMPK; in vivo rodent and large-animal (swine) models with surgical and device-evaluation capability; bioanalysis (LC-MS/MS, HPLC-UV, ligand-binding assays); histopathology and IHC/IF; and an early-phase clinical CRO (Phase 0 to early Phase II) with registry-powered recruitment across Greece and the EU. ALTP's incubator can also bring qualifying start-ups and SMEs into consortia.
As a Marketing Authorisation Holder, ELPEN holds real-world patient data from Phase IV studies, baseline characteristics and treatment outcomes, across respiratory, cardiovascular, urology and other cohorts, a valuable resource for real-world-evidence, biomarker and outcomes research. With commercial reach across 90+ markets, ELPEN also contributes a credible route to market and exploitation, and as an industrial partner based in a Widening country it strengthens consortium balance and Widening participation.
ELPEN participates in Horizon Europe and Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) consortia as a development, manufacturing and clinical partner, contributing GMP manufacturing, formulation, preclinical validation, IMP supply and early-phase clinical capabilities to Cluster 1 Health projects. We welcome collaboration with consortia where these strengths add value.
