The Department of Pathology at the University of Patras provides an interdisciplinary academic and research environment dedicated to advancing the understanding of disease mechanisms and translating biomedical research into improved diagnostic and clinical approaches.
The research group brings together expertise in cancer research, pathology, molecular medicine, tissue analysis, and bioinformatics, with a particular focus on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression. Our research activities integrate histopathological, molecular, and computational approaches to characterize disease-associated alterations and identify clinically relevant biomarkers with potential diagnostic and prognostic value.
A major area of the group’s research is prostate cancer biology, with ongoing studies focusing on the molecular and pathological characterization of prostate cancer and the identification and validation of biomarkers associated with disease progression and clinical outcome. These studies involve the analysis of tissue samples, molecular profiling, and bioinformatic data analysis, enabling an integrated investigation of the biological and molecular features of prostate cancer.
The group also develops and investigates patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models of aggressive prostate cancer variants. These clinically relevant preclinical models provide valuable platforms for studying tumor biology, disease progression, molecular heterogeneity, and potential therapeutic strategies.
Through the integration of pathology, molecular medicine, and bioinformatics, our research aims to generate clinically meaningful insights into cancer biology and contribute to the development of improved approaches for disease diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.
