About

Renal Care & Research (RCR) is a Belgian healthcare innovation company dedicated to improving the prevention, monitoring, and management of kidney diseases through digital health, clinical research, and patient-centered innovation.

The company brings together expertise in nephrology, urology, clinical research, medical device development, digital health, software engineering, data science, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs. Its work focuses on translating clinical needs into practical digital solutions that can support both patients and healthcare professionals across the care pathway.

A central area of activity at Renal Care & Research is the development of AIDEWA®, a Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) designed to support the remote monitoring and management of patients with or at risk of renal diseases, particularly nephrolithiasis (kidney stones). AIDEWA® combines a patient mobile application with a healthcare professional dashboard. Patients can record and monitor information such as fluid intake, alkalinization therapy adherence, urinary parameters, well-being, and other health-related data, while healthcare professionals can remotely review patient information, follow trends, monitor alerts, and support personalized preventive and therapeutic strategies.

Renal Care & Research follows a structured medical device development approach covering product requirements, software development, verification and validation, usability engineering, clinical evaluation, risk management, cybersecurity, data protection, and post-market activities. Development activities are performed with consideration of the European Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745 and relevant standards and guidance for medical device software, including IEC 62304, ISO 14971, IEC 62366-1, ISO 13485, and GDPR requirements.

A strong focus is placed on usability and human-centered design. Patients and healthcare professionals are involved in formative and summative usability evaluations to ensure that digital solutions can be used safely, effectively, and intuitively in representative real-world environments.

The company also contributes to clinical and research activities aimed at generating evidence on the usability, performance, safety, and clinical value of digital health technologies. RCR works with healthcare professionals, hospitals, academic institutions, research organizations, and technology partners to evaluate solutions in real clinical settings and to support their integration into existing healthcare pathways.

In parallel, Renal Care & Research is exploring the use of advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence to further improve personalized monitoring, clinical decision support, risk identification, and patient engagement. These developments are approached within the applicable European regulatory framework for medical devices and artificial intelligence.

Through its multidisciplinary expertise and collaborative approach, Renal Care & Research aims to bridge the gap between clinical practice, patient needs, medical technology, and digital innovation. Its ambition is to contribute to more preventive, personalized, data-driven, and accessible kidney care while supporting healthcare professionals with reliable tools for long-term patient management.
