Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) was established in 2019 assimilating the former Technological Educational Institute of Crete. HMU provides high-level undergraduate and postgraduate educational program. HMU aims to link research with education and lifelong learning and holds a top position in university rankings and recognized for its contribution in regional development of Crete and Greece. HMU’s academic and research staff participate in many national and international SOTA research projects of global recognition. Research activities are held by Institutional Research Laboratories with high- tech equipment staffed with expert scientific and technical members for conducting novel research offering high-quality services with an interdisciplinary orientation. HMU surpasses the world average in excellence for science, engineering & technology with higher ranking versus other national universities. ELKE (Specific Account for Research Funds) of HMU is the University’s authorized central administrative foundation, responsible for the financial and administrative management of the research and development projects implemented by the Institution. ELKE is a well-organized unit with 4 Departments, which ensures the qualitative monitoring and management of the R&D projects. HMU also offers: •Quality assurance Unit (QAU) for the evaluation of the units of the Institute; •Institute Library addressed to the entire academic society;•Special Account of Research Grants for the management of R&D projects; •Support for ICT, offered by the Informatics Department for Administration and the Centre of Networks Control and Management. In terms of project management and cooperation, HMU has participated in a total of 17 projects over the last 5 years together with productive companies operating in Crete. •ERASMUS+KA2 2016 Geothermal & Solar Skills in Continuous Vocational Education & Training;•ERASMUS+KA2 2017 ENhANCE -EuropeaN curriculum for fAmily aNd Community nurse; •ERASMUS+KA2 2014 Developing Employability Skills Through INnovative education using MOOCs for Youth;•HORIZON 2020- ARMONIzation and integrative analysis of regional, national, & international Cohorts on primary Sjogren’s Syndrome (pSS) towards improved stratification, treatment & health policy- making-HarmonicSS;•ERASMUS+KA2 2019- EBP e-Toolkit- “Providing a Teaching and Learning Open and Innovative Toolkit for Evidence- based Practice to Nursing European Curriculum”;•ERASMUS+KA2 2021-WITEA-ID-“Weeks of International Teaching- Inclusive & Digital” School of Health Sciences (SHS)- Nursing Department (ND): The SHS in HMU was founded to promote education and research in healthcare with an excellent collaboration with stakeholders such as university- hospitals, districts, and Social & Healthcare Centers of Crete. The Nursing Department (ND) within SHS, recognizing the role of Nursing personnel as the largest workforce in healthcare, aims to cultivate competences of evidence-based practice (EBP) & precision healthcare (PH) for continuous professional development. ND offers an undergraduate program in Nursing (Bsc), a Master (Msc) in ‘Advanced Clinical Practice” and PhD research opportunities. Research within ND of HMU is held by the “Laboratory of Epidemiology, Prevention & Management of Diseases” and the “Laboratory of Evidence-based & Precision healthcare” which runs the project EVIDENCE that aims to record and analyse the frequency, the clinical significance, the awareness and the management of drug-drug interactions and adverse drug reactions in healthcare units considering EB&PH approaches. Conclusively, HMU is considered a national leading organization for teaching and leading research in the area of evidence-based medicine and precision healthcare in healthcare students in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. At a European and international level HMU has already mapped the scene regarding EB/ PH in Greek and other European settings through its participation in other Erasmus+ initiative which aimed to fill the gap of EBP and PH education for HSs and HPs. HMU has also contributed to the development of the European Center for Teaching and Learning Evidence-Based Nursing Center.
