Seeking consortium on cardiovascular disease for upcoming Horizon Europe call

International projects office at Institut de Recerca Biomèdica Catalunya Sud

Reus, Spain

About

1. Introduction

The Research Group in Emergencies and Prehospital Care (GRUEM) at the IRB CatSud conducts high‑impact research in acute care, prehospital emergencies and time‑dependent pathologies. The group has consolidated expertise in sudden cardiac death (SCD), cardiovascular emergencies, AI‑based prediction, and innovation in prehospital systems, making it an excellent fit for the following Horizon Europe calls:

  • HORIZON-HLTH-2027-01-CARE-02: Personalised approaches to reduce risks from Adverse Drug Reactions due to administration of multiple medications

  • HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-DISEASE-01-TWO-STAGE: Innovative healthcare interventions for non-communicable diseases

  • HORIZON-HLTH-2027-01-DISEASE-10: Prevention and management of chronic non-communicable diseases in children and young people (GACD)

The group seeks to join consortia as a partner, contributing clinical expertise, real‑world data, predictive modelling capabilities and translational innovation in cardiovascular emergencies.

2. About the Research Group

The group conducts research across the full emergency care continuum, integrating prehospital EMS, primary care, hospital care, and forensic services. This unique structure enables access to a multi‑source registry capable of determining the cause of 55% of all sudden cardiac deaths—a rare and highly valuable dataset in Europe.

The group has consolidated research lines in:

  • Strategies to improve survival in sudden cardiac death

  • Preparedness for future pandemic crises

  • Optimisation of prehospital care for time‑dependent conditions (stroke, acute coronary syndromes, trauma)

Its work has a direct impact on improving acute care, survival outcomes and system‑level emergency response.

3. What We Offer to a Consortium

  • Unique multi‑source SCD registry integrating EMS, hospitals, primary care and forensic data

  • Expertise in cardiovascular emergencies, SCD mechanisms, and time‑dependent pathologies

  • Real‑world clinical environments for pilot testing and validation

  • Strong experience in AI‑based prediction, biomarker development, and digital health tools

  • Capacity to contribute to:

    • Epidemiological WPs

    • AI/biomarker WPs

    • Clinical validation WPs

    • Innovation scaling and implementation science

  • Long-standing collaboration with regional and national emergency networks

4. Our Interest

We seek to join consortia as partners (not coordinators). We can contribute to:

  • Cardiovascular epidemiology

  • AI‑based predictive modelling and biomarker development

  • Real‑world validation of cardiovascular innovations

  • Implementation science and scaling of emergency care innovations

  • Clinical pilots in prehospital and hospital settings

  • Dissemination, training and knowledge transfer
