Partner Search for HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-IND-02: Portable and Versatile Point-of-Care Diagnostics

The Photonic Nanosystems Lab (University of Fribourg, Switzerland) is seeking partners and consortium opportunities for the Horizon Europe call HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-IND-02: Portable and Versatile Point-of-Care Diagnostics.

We have recently developed a portable, smartphone-based fluorescence microscope that achieves single-molecule sensitivity, enabling highly sensitive molecular diagnostics in a compact and affordable format. The technology has already been successfully demonstrated for microRNA detection and offers a versatile platform for a broad range of nucleic acid and biomarker assays.

Key advantages of our technology include:

  • Single-molecule detection sensitivity

  • Portable and lightweight smartphone-based instrumentation

  • Low-cost implementation suitable for decentralized testing

  • Digital fluorescence readout with quantitative analysis

  • Potential for multiplexed biomarker detection

  • Adaptability to diverse point-of-care diagnostic applications

We are interested in joining or forming a consortium and contributing as a technology provider and research partner. Our team can support the development, optimization and validation of advanced fluorescence-based diagnostic platforms.

We are looking for:

  • Clinical partners (hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, healthcare providers) for defining clinical requirements, accessing patient samples and conducting validation studies.

  • Diagnostic SMEs and MedTech companies interested in industrialization, product development and manufacturing.

  • Molecular diagnostics companies and assay developers for the creation of clinically relevant nucleic acid or biomarker assays.

  • Primary care and community healthcare partners for real-world deployment and usability studies.

  • Regulatory, health-economic and market access experts to support translation toward clinical implementation and commercialization.

We welcome collaborations across Europe and are particularly interested in applications addressing infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, rapid pathogen detection, and other unmet diagnostic needs requiring sensitive decentralized testing.
