Biomedical Engineer at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico
Rome, Italy
About
Our Traumatology and Sports Medicine Research Unit at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico, Rome, Italy, includes a state-of-the-art Motion Analysis Laboratory. We combine clinical expertise with quantitative biomechanical and functional assessment to investigate movement impairments, physical performance and recovery, and to support the development, assessment and clinical application of healthcare technologies and interventions.
WHAT WE OFFER
-) Clinical use-case definition and identification of unmet needs in musculoskeletal health, mobility, functional recovery, prevention and disease management.
-) Design and implementation of clinical studies, including assessment protocols, outcome selection and longitudinal follow-up.
-) Instrumented movement analysis using three-dimensional motion capture, surface electromyography, force plates and wearable magneto-inertial measurement units (M-IMUs) to characterise joint function, muscle activation, and movement strategies.
-) Quantitative assessment of physical function and performance to evaluate treatment outcomes and support more personalised care.
-) Assessment and clinical evaluation of emerging technologies, including wearable sensors, virtual reality, exoskeletons, and socially assistive robotics, through laboratory benchmarking, functional outcome assessment and evaluation of usability and acceptability, as appropriate.
-) Definition of clinical and user requirements for digital health tools, and assessment of their application in clinical settings.
-) Generation, integration and clinical interpretation of multimodal datasets, including clinical, biomechanical, structural and genetic data, to support collaborative research on digital biomarkers, patient stratification and predictive models.
RESEARCH AND COLLABORATION INTERESTS
-) Musculoskeletal disorders, orthopaedic conditions and functional recovery following injury or surgery.
-) Physical disabilities and interventions supporting autonomy, participation and independent living.
-) Physical activity, exercise and functional capacity in relation to cardiovascular risk and chronic non-communicable diseases, with a particular interest in athletic populations.
-) Wearable sensing, markerless motion analysis and digital measures of mobility, physical function and treatment response.
-) Integration of multimodal data, including clinical, biomechanical, structural, and genetic data, into AI-supported prediction and clinical decision-support tools.
-) Clinical use cases and functional assessment for Virtual Human Twins, in collaboration with computational modelling and technology partners.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We welcome contact from proposal coordinators and emerging consortia seeking a clinical research partner.
We are particularly interested in collaborating with universities, research organisations, hospitals, SMEs and industry partners. Collaboration with patient organisations and experts in implementation research is also welcome.
Our proposed role is as a consortium partner contributing to clinical study design, clinical and laboratory assessments, technology assessment and application, and interpretation of clinical and functional outcomes. Recruitment and data contributions would be defined according to the target population, study feasibility, and applicable approvals.
