Human-Based Models and Advanced Therapies for Translational Health Research
Funding and Innovation Officer at Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM)
Lisbon, Portugal
About
The Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) brings together complementary expertise and infrastructure to support the development of innovative therapeutic approaches grounded in human biology and clinical relevance. GIMM supports the preclinical development of new drugs and advanced therapies across multiple disease areas, including cancer, neurodegenerative and cognitive disorders, infectious and inflammatory diseases, autoimmune conditions, rare and cardiovascular disorders, and aging-related diseases.
GIMM’s advanced human-based models include state-of-the-art cellular and tissue systems that more accurately recapitulate human physiology and disease, enabling robust target identification, validation, and translational decision-making. GIMM has strong capabilities in advanced therapies, encompassing innovative cell- and gene-based approaches designed to address unmet medical needs. These efforts are closely aligned with translational research, early development, and preclinical proof-of-concept generation.
In parallel, GIMM is advancing regenerative medicine strategies aimed at tissue repair, functional restoration, and modulation of disease processes. By integrating human-relevant models with advanced therapeutic modalities, GIMM provides a coherent ecosystem for collaborative R&D, technology transfer, and co-development with academic, clinical, and industrial partners.
