About

Swiss HealthTech Center (SHTC) – Your Swiss Partner for Applied Research, Innovation and Technology Development

The Swiss HealthTech Center (SHTC), part of Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne (SIPBB), is an applied research and development centre supporting European innovation consortia in transforming scientific discoveries and emerging technologies into practical, validated and scalable healthcare solutions.

As an Innosuisse-accredited research partner, SHTC combines multidisciplinary engineering expertise, an innovation-driven mindset and extensive experience in collaborative R&D projects. Our strength lies in connecting different technological disciplines to address complex healthcare challenges, from early-stage feasibility assessments to proof-of-concept development, functional prototypes and minimum viable products (MVPs).

Our Core Expertise

  • Mechanical Engineering & Product Design: Innovative medical devices, assistive technologies, rehabilitation equipment, precision mechanisms, ergonomic and human-centred product development, CAD, prototyping and multidisciplinary system integration.

  • Software Development & Artificial Intelligence: AI/ML algorithms, medical data analysis, computer vision, predictive modelling, intelligent decision-support systems, digital health platforms and software architectures.

  • Electronics & Embedded Systems: Sensor integration, physiological monitoring, wearable technologies, embedded hardware and firmware, connected medical devices and intelligent monitoring solutions.

  • Biotechnology & Personalised Medicine: Engineering and software solutions for biotechnology applications, laboratory automation, intelligent biomedical systems and AI-enabled approaches supporting personalised diagnostics and therapies.

  • Digital Health & Healthcare 5.0: Connected care, remote patient monitoring, Care@Home solutions, interoperability, human-centred technologies and digital transformation of healthcare delivery.

  • Applied Research & Innovation Management: Technology feasibility, interdisciplinary R&D, proof-of-concept validation, rapid prototyping, product innovation and translation of research outcomes into industrial applications.

Research and Innovation Focus

SHTC is actively involved in collaborative innovation projects spanning medical technology, biotechnology and digital healthcare.

Our current activities include the development of technological solutions supporting personalised oncology treatment, combining advanced engineering, biotechnology-related applications and digital technologies.

We also contribute to initiatives addressing Care@Home, connected healthcare and human-centred Healthcare 5.0, bringing together technological innovation, healthcare professionals and real-world care environments.

Of particular interest are technologies that improve independent living, accessibility, rehabilitation, functional autonomy and social inclusion across the life course. Our interdisciplinary capabilities enable us to contribute to intelligent assistive devices, personalised support technologies, unobtrusive monitoring systems, adaptive interfaces and solutions supporting people with disabilities, older adults and their caregivers.

Our Contribution to Horizon Europe Consortia

SHTC is interested in joining European collaborative research and innovation projects as a technology development and applied research partner.

We can contribute through:

  • Development of innovative technical concepts and system architectures.

  • Design and engineering of medical, assistive and connected devices.

  • Development of AI algorithms, software applications and embedded systems.

  • Integration of sensors, electronics, mechanics and digital technologies.

  • Development of functional prototypes and demonstrators.

  • Technology feasibility assessments, iterative development and technical validation.

  • Translation of research results into practical, user-oriented and potentially marketable solutions.

Why Collaborate with SHTC?

Our distinctive value lies in the combination of Swiss engineering excellence, multidisciplinary applied research, creativity and a strong product-oriented innovation culture.

Rather than focusing on a single technological discipline, we integrate complementary engineering competencies to solve complex problems and accelerate innovation. Our approach combines technical rigour, flexibility, rapid experimentation and a clear understanding of the requirements for real-world implementation.

SHTC welcomes collaboration with universities, research organisations, hospitals, SMEs, industrial partners and innovation-driven consortia seeking a reliable technology partner for ambitious European R&D projects.
