Unwritten Health

Unwritten Health is a UK-based health data and engagement company focused on redefining how underserved and marginalised communities are involved in mental health and wider health research, service design and policy. It exists to address a persistent problem: the people most affected by health inequities are often the least visible in the data that shapes clinical trials, care pathways and innovation priorities.

The platform combines community-led engagement, qualitative research and digital tools to capture lived experience and social determinants of health (SDoH) data from groups who are typically underrepresented in research and poorly served by existing services, including people living with depression and anxiety in disadvantaged areas, migrants, those in precarious work or housing, and others facing structural barriers to care. Unwritten Health works with community organisations, clinicians and researchers to co-design trusted, culturally competent ways of engaging people in their own environments, building relationships first and then generating high-quality, consented data on mental health, stigma, access, treatment and daily life.

This data is enriched with contextual SDoH information to help partners understand not just what is happening, but why, and how interventions must be adapted to work in real-world settings. The ambition is to provide scalable, ethically grounded infrastructure for lived-experience and equity-focused data, so that mental health research, care and innovation can move beyond tokenistic consultation towards genuinely co-produced solutions that work for the communities most affected.
