About

Nagasaki University is a national research university in Japan with extensive and long-standing collaborations with institutions in Europe and Africa. Building on decades of engagement in international research and capacity-building, the university has developed a strong interdisciplinary profile in global health, planetary health, global risk and global ecology.

Planetary health is a central mission of Nagasaki University. The university promotes integrated research approaches that address health challenges arising from climate change, environmental degradation, demographic change and social vulnerability. This mission-driven orientation enables close collaboration across disciplines, including public health, environmental sciences, population studies, ecology and policy research.

Within international research consortia, Nagasaki University contributes systems-level perspectives and policy-oriented analysis. Our expertise lies in connecting complex scientific evidence with decision-making needs, particularly through policy modelling, foresight and scenario-based impact assessment. We place strong emphasis on translating interdisciplinary research into outputs that are relevant, usable and timely for policymakers and international stakeholders.

The university has substantial experience working with European partners, African institutions, national governments and international organisations in large-scale collaborative projects. We are familiar with the operational requirements, coordination practices and quality standards of international research programmes. In Horizon Europe projects, Nagasaki University seeks to act as a reliable and constructive partner by leading or co-leading clearly defined work packages, especially those related to policy modelling, foresight and societal impact, thereby complementing European scientific leadership and strengthening the policy relevance of project outcomes.
