OIKANOS Social Cooperative Enterprise (KOINSEP) is a social enterprise founded in 2017 and based in Heraklion, Crete (Greece). It operates in the field of social care and home nursing and is the only organisation in Crete providing free psychosocial and home-based nursing services to vulnerable groups in their own homes. Using a person-centred care model, OIKANOS conducts more than 1,500 home visits per month, supporting over 380 beneficiaries in Heraklion and 26 rural villages. Beneficiaries include older adults, people with disabilities, patients with chronic diseases, homeless people and low-income households.
OIKANOS delivers a wide range of services: home nursing, therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation, pharmaceutical support, counselling and social work, support for disability benefit applications, and distribution of food and basic goods in cooperation with local actors. Its interdisciplinary team consists of social workers, nurses, healthcare assistants, a physiotherapy assistant, project and administrative staff, complemented by external professionals and volunteers.
The organisation plays an active role in national networks, including the Hellenic Association of Nursing Companies (ELEKON), and collaborates with numerous civil society organisations across Greece. It has experience in European projects in the areas of long-term care, mobile health, assistive technologies and digital skills for caregivers, combining frontline practice, strong community links and European project management capacity to co-create innovative, inclusive solutions in health and social care.
