About

AOU AL is the University Hospital of Alessandria, part of the National Health Service of the Piedmont Region (Italy), serving a catchment population of roughly 650,000 inhabitants. The hospital counts 581 beds, registers approximately 21,211 ordinary admissions per year, and handles about 64,230 emergency-department accesses annually. Within AOU AL, the Research & Innovation Department (DAIRI) operates as a multidisciplinary hub committed to bridging scientific research and clinical care with the overarching goal of improving population health. DAIRI coordinates and manages clinical and translational research, training activities, and communication efforts across multiple hospital units and professional disciplines. The Department relies on an integrated infrastructure comprising a Clinical Trial Center, a Grant Office, a Biomedical Library, an HTA (Health Technology Assessment) unit, a Biobank, and dedicated units for Communication, Education, and Fundraising. Moreover, DAIRI oversees several “Disease Units”, operates joint laboratories in collaboration with the local university, and maintains a Research Unit for Health Professions and an Epidemiology team. Through these resources and organizational structures, DAIRI supports high-quality research, fosters medical training, and ensures systematic dissemination of findings.

Mission: to foster synergy between scientific research and clinical care, with the primary objective of improving the health status of the population
