Robotic Surgery Technologies

Profesor of Medical Robotics at Heriot-Watt University

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

About

Experimental Robotic Surgery Setup developed and fully functional in my lab. The setup is meant to be a low-cost asset for robotic surgery research and for training of surgeons. Closely immitattes the actual robotic surgery systems (e.g. Da Vinci). Furhter, it is equipped with haptic-feedback facility, which is now an emerging feature wit hthe latest version of Da Vinci 5 that provides (limited) force feedback. The setup has been used in currrently active research on:

-training of robotic surgeons,

-laser ablation technologies adapted to robotic surgery,

-inversigation of visual cues in surgical performance,

-effective force estimation and haptic-feedback.
