Mental Health & Media Literacy: School-Based cRCT for Adolescent Body Image

Full Professor at Miguel Hernández

Elche, Spain

About

Our team is IITCA (Research and Intervention in Eating Disorders). We are a specialized research group led by senior academic professors and Clinical Psychologists, including FPU Research Fellows. Our expertise lies in evidence-based prevention and intervention in eating disorders and third-wave interventions.
We have developed and are currently testing a highly structured intervention: "Effectiveness of a School-Based Programme Integrating Social Media Literacy and Third-Wave Interventions (ACT & Self-Compassion) in Promoting Positive Body Image."
Core Objective:
The program aims to promote positive body image and emotion regulation strategies among youth. By providing these tools, the intervention is designed to prevent eating disorders (ED) and improve the overall mental health and resilience of adolescents in the digital age.
Current Status & Proven Implementation:
The program is already being implemented in Spain through a Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial (cRCT). High satisfaction and acceptability rates reported by students confirm its strong real-world applicability and feasibility for large-scale rollout.
What we offer to a consortium:

  • Validated & Protocolized Intervention: A fully manualized program ready for international scaling.

  • Scalability: We are prepared to adapt and protocolize the program into different languages for use by teachers, psychologists, or health professionals across Europe.

  • Clinical & Methodological Expertise: Profound knowledge in Third-Wave therapies (ACT, Self-Compassion), Media Literacy, and large-scale cRCT management.

Looking for: We are seeking partners or coordinators to collaborate on any strategy focused on improving adolescent health in the digital world. We offer specialized expertise in the evaluation and implementation of interventions related to social media literacy, positive body image, and related fields. We are open to joining consortia for the Horizon Europe 2026 Cluster 1 Health call.
