Early detection of neurodegenerative disease

Leading researcher at Riga Stradiņš University

Riga, Latvia

About

I am an early-career researcher working in the field of cognitive ageing, with a central scientific aim to identify early biological, cognitive, and lifestyle markers of dementia, with a specific focus on Alzheimer’s disease. My work targets the preclinical and prodromal stages of pathology, where subtle changes emerge long before functional decline becomes visible. By integrating behavioural, neurobiological, and life-course perspectives, I aim to contribute to models of risk and resilience that enable earlier, more precise, and more equitable detection of pathological ageing trajectories.

My core expertise lies in cognitive reserve, cognitive screening development, and psychometric analysis. I lead the development of novel assessment tools that move beyond single-score screening toward multidimensional cognitive profiling. My research group combines strong methodological competence in cognitive neuropsychology and advanced statistics with extensive hands-on experience in EEG and MRI acquisition, preprocessing, and analysis. This allows us to link fine-grained cognitive phenotypes with neural markers and to validate screening approaches against underlying brain mechanisms.

Within Horizon Cluster projects, I am seeking a consortium that can meaningfully integrate these capacities into larger translational frameworks. I am particularly interested in collaborations focused on brain health, early detection, and personalised prevention of neurodegenerative disease. I offer conceptual models, innovative screening methodologies, and access to multimodal cognitive and neurobiological expertise, and I am looking for partners who aim to build robust, scalable solutions for early Alzheimer’s disease detection and risk profiling across Europe.
