About

Policy, prevention and governance
We have strong expertise in advancing climate-informed health policy and prevention across EU, national and local levels. Our work focuses on how climate-related health risks, indicators and evidence are embedded in planetary health governance, priority-setting and regulation. This includes comparative health systems analysis, the design of equity-sensitive indicator frameworks, and the translation of evidence into actionable policies supporting planetary health mitigation, adaptation and health protection for populations.

Climate-sensitive infectious diseases and population health surveillance
We lead research on how climate variability and long-term climate change affect infectious disease dynamics, population health burden and public health system demand. Our approach integrates epidemiology, surveillance and health systems perspectives, with a strong emphasis on Planetary Health coordination. We can contribute to the design of strengthened surveillance and early-warning systems, prevention-oriented interventions and adaptive public health responses that enhance population resilience and reduce health inequities.

Health system resilience and sustainable care
We assess how health systems and healthcare services anticipate, absorb and respond to shocks related to the planetary crisis, while progressing towards sustainable models of care. This includes developing and validating indicators of resilience and evaluating adaptation plans. Our work can support authorities in building resilient, prevention-oriented and health systems planetary health-based.

Healthy urban environments, nature-based solutions and mental health
We investigate how urban environments and nature-based solutions (e.g. green and blue spaces) influence population mental health and other planetary health-related outcomes. Our work includes the co-development of planetary health indicators and the application of mixed-methods and quasi-experimental designs to assess impacts, distributional effects and equity implications. This theme supports evidence-based urban health strategies that promote mental wellbeing, resilience and health equity.
