Behavioural interventions for youth mental health and digital well-being
Professor & Head of Department at Auckland University of Technology
Auckland, New Zealand
About
I am a Professor of Marketing and behavioural scientist at Auckland University of Technology (AUT), specialising in behavioural interventions, digital well-being, preventive health and healthcare services. My research sits at the intersection of behavioural science, digital technologies, and health, with a strong focus on understanding how digital environments shape people’s emotions, motivation, vulnerability, and long-term well-being.
My work aligns closely with Horizon Europe priorities under Destination 3 (digital technologies and youth mental health) and Destination 1 (behavioural interventions for NCD prevention among young people). I have led and contributed to interdisciplinary projects on digital well-being, responsible gaming, immersive technologies, consumer vulnerability, preventive health marketing, and ethical AI in youth mental healthcare, with outputs published in leading journals such as European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Psychology & Marketing, Journal of Services Marketing, Marketing Theory, and Journal of Marketing Management. I am currently involved in externally funded projects on AI and youth mental health and gamified health interventions, providing direct translational experience relevant to Horizon Europe calls.
Within a Horizon Europe consortium, I can contribute as a work package lead or senior partner, particularly in:
-
Behavioural theory development and intervention design
-
Qualitative and mixed-methods research (interviews, ethnography, community-based participatory research, co-design)
-
Understanding unintended consequences and risks of digital technologies
-
Developing evidence-based frameworks for prevention, resilience, and well-being
-
Translating behavioural insights into policy- and practice-relevant outputs
I bring extensive experience working in interdisciplinary, large-scale project teams spanning health sciences, digital technologies, and social sciences, as well as a strong track record of supervising and mentoring early-career researchers and doctoral students within large projects.
I am seeking collaboration with coordinators or consortia looking for a partner with deep expertise in behavioural science, well-being, digital health, preventive health, particularly those aiming to design, evaluate, or scale preventive and intervention-focused solutions for young people across diverse contexts.
