Physical Activity Measurement & Wearable-Based Interventions for Youth Health

Professor of Physical Activity, Health, and Wellbeing at Edge Hill University

Ormskirk, United Kingdom

About

I offer expertise in physical activity and 24-hour movement behaviour research focused on children and young people, spanning measurement, intervention development, and evaluation for multidisciplinary projects.

Core Interests and Expertise:

  • Advanced measurement and interpretation of physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep data using device-based monitoring

  • Wearable devices as intervention tools—integrating real-time feedback, data-driven decision making, and behaviour change strategies

  • Theory-driven intervention design and mixed-methods evaluation (feasibility, process, effectiveness)

  • Data-driven personalisation and adaptive intervention approaches using movement behaviour data

Collaboration Interests: Partnerships on movement behaviour research projects addressing digital health solutions for youth, chronic disease and mental ill-health prevention through early-life behaviour change, health inequalities, and implementation science.

Added Value: Strong track record in generating rigorous evidence, experience with diverse stakeholder engagement (schools, families, policymakers), multidisciplinary collaboration across public health and exercise science, and commitment to translating research into practice.

I welcome discussions with researchers, technology developers, policy organisations, and implementation partners advancing youth health through innovative, data-driven physical activity interventions.
